Our Worship

Our worship services are held at the Worship Center at 10 a.m.  Sunday School for children is offered at the same time as the worship service from September through May. Services are generally one hour long and informal. Words of welcome, a call to worship, invocation, a children’s time, Scripture reading, prayers sharing our joys and concerns, and a morning message are accompanied by favorite hymns and choral music. A nursery is available.

Chatham Community Church maintains ties to the two founding denominations — United Church of Christ and United Methodist — and elements of both denominations can be seen in the worship services.

We welcome persons of all denominations to worship with us. We hold Communion on the first Sunday of each month and it is open for all to partake.

The Worship Committee and pastor plan special services as the Christian year progresses. The Ash Wednesday service that leads us into the Lenten season and includes the imposition of ashes is preceded by a soup and sandwich supper. We join with nearby churches for Sunday evening Lenten services. A Hanging of the Greens ceremony begins the Advent season. A special candlelight Christmas Eve service is one of the highlights of our worship year.

Our lay speaker fills in when the pastor is unavailable on a Sunday.

The children stay with the parents through the invocation, then listen to the pastor tell them a story at the altar, after which they go to their Sunday School classes.

If you have a question about our worship services, please contact the pastor or the Worship Committee. They welcome input.

2012 Combined Lenten Service Schedule

Chatham Community Church joins with other area churches for combined Lenten services on Sundays at 7 p.m. A combined choir will sing. An offering to benefit a local charity (Operation HOMES, Matthew 25 or Haven of Rest) will be taken. Fellowship sponsored by the host church follows each service.
